New Comic: Back Alley Beast!

My first full comic is finally completed! It’s called New Kanton Chronicles - Back Alley Beast. You can download a copy from my Gumroad page here.

Although it’s only 17 pages, this project has taken a little over a year to produce. Between working full-time, taking care of a house, and having a baby, I can honestly say I’m really proud of myself for accomplishing this goal. Now I can officially say I’m a comic writer and artist! (albeit still an amateur one lol)

Some things I’ve learned from this project:

  • I can be a perfectionist about small details and I need to let go of those things if I want to produce work at any reasonable speed.

  • I could probably have achieved what I wanted to with this comic in a much shorter way. The main objective was to show off the villain, but it wasn’t until I was 12 or so pages deep that I realized I could have done that with a short, one-page comic.

  • Lettering (especially onomatopoeia) is harder than it looks! I think I did an OK job, but there’s a lot of improvement to be had.

What’s next?

Although I have plans for New Kanton Chronicles to be a larger series (I have tons of universe building already written) there are other projects I’ve been itching to work on. Most notably is a long form web series called Caerulea. You’ve probably seen characters from this if you follow me online.

But before I jump headlong into that, there’s a little short I want to squeeze out called Float.

It’s a bit more somber, but it’s something I’ve had in my head for a while. It’ll also be a great opportunity to practice fast / rapid production. I’m going to give myself until October 2020 to complete it.

Fingers crossed!

I’ve got a couple more sketches for this story currently on my Patreon. During production I’ll be uploading pages there as soon as I complete them, so if you’re interested, feel free to show your support!

Thank you.
