New Comic: Float

CoverThumb_Float.jpg

I completed my latest comic! It’s called Float and it’s about a down-on-his-luck boy who’s about to end it all when he makes a new friend at the last second. It’s slow, moody, and a little depressing… So have fun reading!

This goal of this comic was to try and see how fast I could complete it. And boy-howdy! I ended up finishing it way faster than I was expecting.

Here are the factors that lead to me finishing this project in about a month:

  • The comic itself was about 100 panels less than my last

  • I forced myself to be okay with rough imperfections in the line-work and coloring

  • There is a LOT of grass and foliage which is very easy to fudge and get away with sloppiness

  • I’m working on a split time schedule with my wife to look after our two-month old. So at night, when everyone is sleeping, I’m all alone to work as much as I want until the wee hours of the morning!

There are definitely things I would have liked to do better with this comic. Like fix some of the imperfections I left behind. There’s also more of the story that I cut out in order to shorten it. But at the end of the day, it’s done, and that makes me feel accomplished!

You can read Float on Webtoon and also purchase a digital copy from my Gumroad page.

What’s next?

A really friendly artist from my Comic Creators Workgroup told me she read all of my Trade Secrets comic strips and really enjoyed them. It’s been a while since I did one of those, so I was thinking about revisiting that series.

Since they’re all based on real-life events I’ve experienced throughout my career, I have no shortage of material. I actually have about 40 already written, so it seems like something easy to pop out every once in a while.

I’ve already started playing around with updated character designs to try and stream-line everything a little bit.

I’ll keep posting work-in-progress stuff on my social medias! Stay tuned
